The collaboration between two artisans should ideally bring awareness of the other to their respective fan bases. Both houses have their own veritable history stretching over the last century making them leaders & visionaries in their fields. However, a strong collaboration is more than than the pairing of two distinct disciplines but rather executing an end that showcases the strength of both whilst creating a product that speaks entirely for itself. Here, Jaeger LeCoultre & Casa Fagliano have joint forces to deliver the Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 with bespoke strap exclusively made by Casa Fagliano.
In the Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931 version, a homage was paid to this collections history laden past drawing on the art deco styling & somewhat reductive branding. The title of Ultra Thin is no exaggeration with the entire thickness of the watch measuring an astounding 7.27mm. Like an original Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey, the devil is always in the details. This models carries the very subtle wording of Reverso just above the sqaured sub dial with Jaeger LeCoultre only engraved on the caseback.
Manual wound, as all Reverso should be in our opinion; the Ultra Thin tribute is powered by the thoroughly modern in-house 822/2 movement offering a 45 hour power reserve & maybe the most satisfying winding mechanism I have had the pleasure of winding in a long time! The brown dial is typically Reverso with the train track framing the matt yet warm deep chocolate brown dial. The Reversos of the time were all delivered with solid casebacks to offer protection whilst the wearers were actually playing polo & the Tribute model pays testament with a sold caseback just waiting to be personalised. Jaeger LeCoultre offer an incredible selection of options when it comes to this personalisation from plain engraving to enameling!
The strap is where the legendary Casa Fagliano come into play. The Reverso’s roots lie in Polo & Jaeger LeCoultre have ensured that the legend from where this model was borne has always played a visible role in its future. The Argentinian polo boot makers Fagliano would appear the obvious choice for this collaboration but in the modern scope for profit & large scale visibility; it appears Jaeger LeCoultre have chosen to put true artisanship on the pedestal over pure profitability.
Casa Fagliano may be one of the last Manufacture’s of this nature that create their boots entirely by hand. The leather is cut, stamped & sewn by hand without the use of any electric easy fixes. This attention to detail & reliance on tradition only adds to their mystique. Furthermore, it also means there is consistently a one hundred person waiting list for their boots. This can only apply to the straps they have made exclusively for the Tribute model too. Signed by the manufacturer, each of the Tribute models of this style is delivered with not just this unique Fagliano strap designed to mimic the polo boots they are famous for but also a regular brown alligator strap for those who appreciate just how difficult it may be to replace the Fagliano strap!
