Omega’s Speedmaster family continues to evolve from the iconic ’57 and Moonwatch series (amongst others!) to the latest Speedmaster Racing. The collection is based on the Co-Axial version of the classic Moonwatch with monochrome design but powered by an automatic Co-Axial calibre with a date feature. The larger 44.25mm case size matched other contemporary sports watches but the case build and mechanics typically outstripped their rivals.
The Speedmaster Racing models take this very sold base and essentially adds a little fun. The most immediate distinction is the busier dials with racing style indices around the minutes counter of the dial. The slightly recessed feature creates a chequered flag effect that further ties in the Racing theme.
Our particular favourite is pictured above, with orange detail perfectly balancing against the serious black underlay. An updated Master Co-Axial movement now powers this new collection that is not just totally anti-magnetic but also superbly accurate as one would expect to be applicable in any Racing environment. As always these beautifully decorated movements can be viewed through a sapphire caseback. (note: Omega have not simply provided a window through which to see the movement but rather the entire caseback is sapphire glass thus offering the viewer an unparalleled picture of the architecture hidden within).
A black calf strap finishes the look with perforated holes that allows the skin to breathe while also hinting a glimmer of the orange base that matches the dial colours, closing with a folding clasp for security. Retailing at £6,240.00, these watches offer exceptional value for money. They all come with a four year warranty and can be discovered in-store or online now.
