Breguet Novelties

Breguet Novelties are here!

Despite the difficult circumstances, the digital releases have been strong and compelling…Montres Breguet have not dropped the ball. Firstly, there is a new colour way on their most recent Marine Tourbillon Equation Marchante – a Tourbillon coupled with an Equation of Time complication & Perpetual Calendar is quite frankly incredible. The original releases in Platinum & Rose Gold were offered with Blue & Silver dials respectively. As appears the theme of this year’s releases, colour seems to be the focus so the Rose Gold variant is now given a sumptuous chocolate brown dial.

Easily the most distinctive modern design from Breguet & perhaps the most historically significant, the Reine de Naples collection has to have a new model added to the collection. Enamelling is hard enough to create so Breguet go a step further and deliver grand Feu (Grand Fire) enamelling as regular production in many models, and now the Reine de Naples enjoys the Grand Feu treatment too. A stark white Grand Feu enamel dial has painted baby blue detailing to provide a feminine contrast, especially paired with a baby blue alligator strap. Delivered in 18ct White Gold in the best selling Reine de Naples case size – this model showcases so many skill sets, it is possible to take away from the overall beauty of this new timepiece.

In 2009, Breguet unveiled the Classique reference 7737 that paid tribute to Breguet’s historical pocket watch No. 4691 (picture courtesy of Sotheby’s) with similar calendar layout, especially the distinctive apertures at 10 & 2.A continually running reference, 2020 sees a new dial colour for the first time in over a decade. Colourful dials are typically reserved for Boutique pieces or special editions in recent years but after the success of the blue enamel reference 5177, this style is a perfect commercial offering without diluting the horology.

As one would expect, a perfect 39mm 18ct White Gold case contains a state of the art self winding movement with off set rotor. The blue dial enjoys three different guilloche finishes that blend perfectly with one another. Sometimes watches that offer this style of complication, especially in a non linear layout can be incredibly tricky to set but in the flesh, this is as simple as it gets. Beautiful in both proportions and aesthetics – this will clearly be winner for a while to come.

Continuing the theme of evolution, not revolution, especially these uncertain times – we see another blue dial added to a fan favourite model. To the uninitiated, the asymmetric dial layout & seemingly nonsensical complications create a sense of confusion but the Breguet DNA on show harks back to an era of pure watchmaking…for whom Abraham Louis Breguet really is one of the founding Father’s.

Breguet pocket watch reference no. 5 (picture courtesy of www.monochrom-watches.com) showcases the level of finishing applied even then that have become an absolute hallmark of Breguet’s style. The modern Breguet Classique 7137 series is not new but this blue dial most definitely is!

Again, using varying style of guilloche, those who already own Breguet watches will attest to how beautifully the light plays off these surfaces. In blue, this dance will only be enhanced! Self winding again, the 39mm 18ct White Gold case enjoys straight lugs synonymous with Breguet’s Classique series.
