The Globemaster collection from Omega officially resides under the Constellation banner but perhaps should be a pillar in its own right. This collection was the first in which Omega unveiled their unique METAS certified Master Chronometer – the crux of which being that the entire watch, case & movement, are tested, not just the movement. Each watch carries a sapphire caseback to view the exquisitely finished movement through and is further garnished by the signature Constellation star.
Mirroring the trend for vintage inspired designs, Omega delved into their archives and incorporated elements from genuine Omega models of the past. the pie-pan dial with a plateau’d centre creates a beautiful play of light bringing to life what could otherwise be a plain dial. For the steel models, Omega have also used a new stronger allow, Tungsten Carbide, to ensure the serrated design retains its look theoretically for life!
After the success of the initial offering, a complication was added to the family. An Annual Calendar is simply indicating both the day & date of the month annually, not perpetually – it will need to be adjusted to allow for leap years. However, the method in which it has been executed is particularly delightful.
As shown in the image above, the month of the year is illustrated in calligraphy style font in-between the hour markers. This stylish detail does not make the dial look too fussy while the pie-pan finish proves a perfect base for this type of complication to be presented. Despite not being the first brand to deliver an annual calendar in this style, Omega have done so in an accessible fashion and priced very competitively for the quality of the movement and overall build involved here.
The pictured model is made entirely in Sedna Gold, a proprietary metal developed by omega that uses the base of 18ct Rose Gold but adds Palladium thus making the Gold stronger and more durable. Model ref: 18.104.22.168.03.001 – UK RRP £17,200.00 including VAT. More details on the entire Omega Globemaster family can be found here.
