A Brief History of Chopard

Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, whose initials would later be incorporated into the DNA of their watchmaking ability.

Based in the Jura region of Switzerland, it was not until 1963 (when the firm was purchased by the Scheufele family) that we saw Chopard begin to gain the identity we all know today. 1973 saw the launch of the first Chopard Happy Diamonds watch, a style that is immediately recognisable as Chopard and which evolved while standing the test of time.

In 1988, Chopard partnered with the famous Mille Miglia vintage car race which is held in Italy every year. This partnership spawned a collection of watches that are equally synonymous with Chopard and helped define a style of timepieces that incorporate tyre thread rubber straps and racing leather straps.

The Chopard Happy Diamonds collection was expanded to include the Chopard Happy Sport in 1993 as well, adding another pillar to an incredibly successful family.
