Lucky number 7

Blancpain’s Fifty Fathoms is the archetypal diving tool watch. Built with functionality in mind from form & function. The original divers watch, made by divers for divers; the watch continues to offer solid water and environmental resistance, clear legibility and solid mechanics from the movement to the sapphire glass bezel and even the crown.

The 45mm case is intetionally substantial and feels as much, with the bezel offering an often under appreciated satisfying click. Powered by Blancpain’s workhorse Calibre 1315, self winding with 5 days worth of power reserve, the movement gets overlooked by the watch but is developed with the quality one would expect from Blancpain.

For 2019, one of three special edition releases commemorates the Nageurs de Combat, specialist combat divers from the French Navy and those equipped with Fifty Fathoms timepieces during their pomp in the 1950’s. This limited series of just 300 pieces is housed in the modern 45mm case but with a brushed finish. The three most distinctive features to signal this as a special edition are the hands are indices, the discreet 7 emblem & unique caseback.

The 7 on the dial reflects the depth in metres to which a diver can use pure oxygen before it becomes lethal, whilst the caseback enjoys a beautiful relief of the coveted badge of the combat divers school with two seahorses flanking an anchor.
