PANERAI: THE HISTORY
Panerai’s history begins in 1860 as Giovanni Panerai opens his doors in Florence to both a watch shop and a watchmaking school. In 1916, the Radiomir patent was filed in line with making a highly visible compound. Through the 1900’s, Panerai’s relationship with the Italian Navy flourished as Panerai supplied many precision objections including timepieces to their elite divers. In 1949, the Luminor name was patented expanding on the creation of a much less radioactive compound and the creation of the now famous Panerai crown guard. In 1993, the first limited series of timepieces were offered for sale to the public followed in 1997 by the acquisition of Panerai by what is now The Richemont Group; bringing Panerai’s unique designs to the world stage. In 2002, a major milestone is unveiled as Panerai unveil their new Manufacture in Neuchâtel, Geneva. Since then, new movements, complications and exciting new materials have evolved Panerai further adding more chapters to their storied history.
