IWC Portugieser – New Launches!

The IWC Portugieser does not require too much introducing but with the update of the Pilot’s Collection from new movements to the Big Pilot 43, perhaps this collection required a little buzz. With that in mind, IWC have released a new colourway in the series specifically for two models; the Portugieser Chronograph and the Portugieser Automatic Seven Days.

The IWC Portugieser Chronograph is their best selling line, a fan favourite since its launch and simply a very good looking timepiece. Recently, this model enjoyed an update to the movement most significantly but also a sharper dial font and new style butterfly clasp. These small but important updates only enhance the style of the new release.

Affectionally known as a “Panda” dial for the colour inversion, the new layout offers a porcelain-esque white dial with blue sub dials. The Portugieser has carried some similar dials in the past for this collection but this is a first for this combination of colours. Fitted on a new blue rubber strap, IWC further show off their new quick change strap system whereby the owner can quickly dress this up on an alligator strap and back again with ease!

A sapphire caseback as is now standard across the Portugieser Chronograph series shows off the shiny new calibre!

The Portugieser Automatic 7 days is a pillar of IWC watchmaking – the movement that offers an incredible 7 days worth of power reserve once fully charged was actually developed by IWC’s own Technical Director, Albert Pellaton & has been transposed across to other models, notably the Big Pilot. The current models also incorporate ceramic elements to enhance durability and precision. Again, this wonderful movement is visible via a sapphire caseback.

A larger than average timepiece, the Portugieser Automatic quickly won a core fanbase with its strong wrist presence and overall modern style so this new colour way only works to provide another colour variety to an already excellent offering.
